🚁 Drone Career Pathways (Ages 13–18)

📖 Course Overview

This self-paced, asynchronous course introduces students to the many career opportunities drones are unlocking across industries today. Learners will explore how drones are used in aerospace engineering, aviation, emergency response, film production, agriculture, and renewable energy. Along the way, they’ll gain an age-appropriate introduction to FAA Part 107 certification concepts, learn industry-standard safety habits, and practice using flight simulators before applying skills in real-world contexts.   • Weekly Tuition: $18 per week
     
  • Course Length: 6 modules (approx. 6 weeks, self-paced)

🎯 Learning Goals

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Understand how drones are applied in careers like engineering, agriculture, emergency response, and media.
     
  • Practice using aviation-style checklists and safety protocols.

  • Explore drone hobbies such as aerial photography, racing, and mapping.

  • Drone Recommendations (purchase optional):
     
    • ✈️ Beginner: Ryze Tello Drone (~$99 on Amazon) – lightweight, great for learning basics, programmable.
       
    • 🚀 Intermediate: DJI Mini 2 SE (~$339 on Amazon) – stable flights, good camera, longer range.
       
    • 🛠️ STEM-Friendly Build Kit: Robolink CoDrone EDU (~$220 on Amazon) – designed for coding + education.
       

👨‍🏫 Teacher Expertise

MTC instructors include certified teachers and industry experts who bring real-world experience into the classroom. All instructors pass Outschool’s background check process and are committed to providing safe, engaging, and age-appropriate learning.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parental Guidance

This is a self-paced course, so there are no live Zoom sessions. Parents will need to help their child set up accounts for any recommended platforms (e.g., Orqa flight simulator) and provide light supervision during any drone practice. All suggested platforms are COPPA-compliant, ensuring a safe online learning environment.
